Are the two high school teammates ready to break out in their fourth year at Ohio State?

Everyone who watched Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary teammates Dante Booker and Parris Campbell play in high school expected the two players to become stars for Ohio State. For various reasons it hasn’t happened yet. Are the two players finally on the verge of having breakout seasons?

Booker was ranked as a top 5 outside linebacker by most recruiting services coming out of high school and was the 2013 Ohio Mr. Football. Campbell was an All-State running back and made the finals in the 40 yard dash at ‘The Opening’ prior to his senior year. The two players led Akron SVSM to back to back state championships their junior and senior years.

Booker was a very effective special teams player his first two seasons at Ohio State. However, playing behind Josh Perry didn’t allow him to see much playing time on defense.

Booker finally became a starter last year before an early season injury sidelined him, and then Jerome Baker stepped in and kept the job. With Chris Worley moving to middle linebacker this year, Booker will again start on the outside.

As Josh Perry was preparing for the NFL last year, he stated that the Booker was ready to do an outstanding job in his place. If Perry was correct, Buckeye fans can expect big things from Booker and the linebacker corps as a whole.

Here we go again with Parris Campbell, I’m sorry but I just can’t help myself. I only saw Campbell play in the state playoffs his senior year of high sbhool, but the plays he made amazed me. I for one am glad he will finally be playing h-back next season and will get more touches as a result.

Campbell seems to perform Houdini acts when he has the ball. Defenders will be draped over him like a straitjacket and the next second he’s free and heading towards the end zone. It seems like when he has the ball in his hands defenders just fall down.

Urban Meyer had nice things to say about Campbell as reported by Eleven Warriors today. From everything I have heard, Campbell is the leader in the clubhouse at the h-back position as Demario McCall is getting a lot of reps at running back.

Anyway, it will be the fourth year at Ohio State for Booker and Campbell, and it appears they are both in good situations at the moment. Will this be the season the Akron SVSM teammates finally break out?
