The San Francisco 49ers played their third preseason game of the year on Sunday afternoon against the San Diego Chargers. And once again, former Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde got a decent amount of reps with the first team.
And once again, Hyde was impressive on an NFL field for his new team.
Against the Chargers on Sunday, Hyde finished up with 38 yards on six carries, including one big 20-yard run early on. There’s no question that Hyde is earning his spot on that team, and he could become a key contributor for the 49ers this year.
With Frank Gore getting up there in age, the team has to be very much pleased with the way that Hyde is turning out so far, as there is no way that Gore could be able to carry the entire load for this team throughout the course of 16 games, as well as some potential playoff contests.
If he can keep this up, then the 49ers will have their future featured back, once they decide that it’s time to part ways with Gore. Plus, there is the potential return of Marcus Lattimore, which would give this team a tremendous one-two punch in the backfield for years to come.
