There’s no question that Braxton Miller is the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes this season. Yes, I know that was the most obvious statement of the century. But you know what else is an obvious statement? Braxton has a difficult time staying healthy, meaning that the battle for the backup QB job is crucial during camp this season.
And it appears that we have a new leader for the task.
On Saturday, head coach Urban Meyer stated that, as of right now, J.T. Barrett has taken the lead in the race over Cardale Jones for one of the most high-pressure backup positions in the nation.
J.T. Barrett has moved slightly ahead of Cardale Jones for Ohio State’s backup quarterback job, head coach Urban Meyer said after Saturday’s practice.
Meyer said entering camp that Jones had the No. 2 spot locked down, but Barrett has been very impressive during camp and the redshirt freshman has passed the third-year sophomore on the depth chart.
Unfortunately for Braxton, we learned last season just how valuable the backup quarterback is to this team, however Kenny Guiton is no longer here to save the day, should the worst case scenario take place again.
