Ohio State Football: Vonn Bell wants to win the Jim Thorpe Award

Ohio State defensive back Vonn Bell is currently embroiled in a battle for a starting safety spot with Cameron Burrows, but if you listen to comments from him, it’s clear cut that he will be the starter.

That’s because Bell believes that, when the year is over, he will be recognized as the best defensive back in the league by winning the Jim Thorpe Award. That is his goal.

“Win the Thorpe,” Bell responded. “I need to get one of those Thorpe Awards.”

Is it possible at this point? Well, of course it is, but it’s not likely. Still, you can’t knock the confidence that Bell has in his abilities.

Her knows that he’s in Columbus for one reason, and that’s to make plays back there.

“To make plays,” Bell said. “Coach Meyer and I have a really good relationship and I told him I am just going to make big plays for him. “That’s my strength. I am always going to be around the big play, be that guy where it’s like, ‘Man, that guy is impressive.’ I want to be that guy.”

Well, should he win the starting job, then we will begin to see in about two weeks whether or not he can be that guy.
