Before the Big Ten football community gathers together next week in Chicago, the media got together and they cast their preseason votes as to who the conference champion will be at season’s end. And surprise, surprise, they selected the Ohio State Buckeyes as the team to walk out of Indianapolis as champions.
As the preseason accolades keep rolling in for this team, this is just another one that you can chalk up, but not take too seriously. It could get very easy to get caught up in the hype, and as we keep finding out as the season approaches, there is a lot of hype surrounding this Ohio State team.
Coming in second in the voting was the Wisconsin Badgers, and not the defending champion Michigan State Spartans. Now that could be considered somewhat of a shock, but as we saw last year, there are a lot of pieces on this Wisconsin team coming back that can make them contenders.
With that, here’s a look at how the complete voting worked out on Friday.
1. Ohio State, 195 points (23 first-place votes)
2. Michigan State, 180 points (10)
3. Michigan, 136 points
4. Penn State, 105.5 points
5. Maryland, 84 points
6. Indiana, 78.5 points
