Ohio State Football: Michael Bennett a favorite for Defensive Player of the Year?

Well the college football award watch lists have all been rolled out as of Friday, and now it’s time to figure out who the favorites will be from the Big Ten to take those awards.

Recently, the Big Ten Network decided to take a look at the candidates for each from the Big Ten and try and figure out who will come away with the hardware come December.

Winning any one of these awards by the time the college football season is all said and done is an accomplishment the likes of which these young men only dream of.

Two of these awards are the Nagurski and Bednarik trophies, given each year to the top defensive player in college football. In this category, defensive tackle Michael Bennett was on the list, and it’s no shock that the Big Ten Network sees him as having the best chance to come away with it when all is said and done.

1. Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State. Not only is he productive, but Bennett also is a leader as the son of two West Point graduates. He has 11 career sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss.

What do you think? Can Bennett come away with the trophies, either one or both, when it’s all said and done? Let us know your thoughts.
