We all know by now that a lot of people are expecting some big things out of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team this season. With folks like Braxton Miller, Joey Bosa, Michael Bennett and a host of other talented players returning to a team that nearly earned a spot in the BCS National Championship Game last season, that’s no surprise.
What else is not much of a shocker is the fact that ESPN recently projected the Buckeyes to win over 10 games in 2014.
Ohio State Buckeyes
Strength of schedule: 38
Projected overall record: 10.46 wins, 2.15 losses
Projected conference record: 6.46 wins, 1.54 losses
Odds of winning the Big Ten: 40.9 percent
Of course, these formulas are mere talking points during this portion of the summer as we get set for the college football season to get underway, but still interesting nonetheless.
As for an explanation, here’s what they had to say.
Only three teams in the nation — Florida State, Oregon, Marshall — are projected to win more games than the Buckeyes. So, once again, Ohio State is favored to win the Big Ten and do big things on a national scale. It’s given a 7.6 percent chance to win out, and it’s favored by at least 65 percent in every game it plays.
Again, these are fun to talk about, but talking points are all they are.
