There’s not a question in anyone’s mind that the Ohio State Buckeyes will be looked upon as one of the teams that could walk away with the national championship in 2014, and deservedly so. With a good group of players coming back, including a Heisman contender in Braxton Miller at quarterback, how could they not?
Well to get there, the journey will be a bit different this year as this is the inaugural season of the four-team playoff to determine the national champion. Instead of relying on the BCS computers now, a committee will select the four most deserving teams who will battle it out, culminating with the title game inside AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
In anticipation of not only this, but the season beginning, Fox Sports recently completed a countdown of the 20 most likely playoff contenders, and the Buckeyes checked in at no. 2.
Ohio State sits at the no. 2 position with the Alabama Crimson Tide right behind them, and the defending champion Florida State Seminoles sitting right up there at the top spot, which you also can’t argue with given the fact that they have the actual Heisman winner from last season returning.
Although it’s only the preseason, we’ll take a no. 2 ranking, because as long as you’re in the top four this year, you’re good.
