When Urban Meyer stepped in as the head coach of the Ohio State football program a few years ago, there’s no doubt that every Buckeyes fan throughout the entire world knew that the school had struck gold. Landing someone like Meyer, with two national titles under his belt, was everything the team could have asked for.
In his first season, although still under sanctions, he led the team to an undefeated season. Last year, now off sanctions, it seemed as if he was ready to attack his third national championship, leading the Buckeyes to a second consecutive undefeated regular season, but falling just short in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Yes, Meyer is considered one of the best coaches in the game, and NFL.com recently recognized him as such.
In their rankings that were released, Meyer was ranked as the third best coach in the game of college football, only behind Washington’s Chris Petersen and Alabama’s Nick Saban.
Here’s a look at what they had to say about the Ohio State head coach:
Nobody gets fans fired up like Meyer, thanks to his somewhat brash and outspoken nature. Still, it’s hard to argue with the results on the field as the offensive-minded head coach has won everywhere from Bowling Green to Ohio State and has two national titles to his name. Considering his worst season is 8-5, Meyer knows exactly what he’s doing and is a great motivator.
Yet another great preseason accolade for the Buckeyes, and no one deserves it more than the man that has kept this program together.
