NBA Draft 2014: LaQuinton Ross having issues with weight gain

Heading into tonight’s NBA Draft, there are a lot of questions surrounding the biggest Ohio State stars in the group, Aaron Craft and LaQuinton Ross. While we’ve all dealt with questions about how Craft’s abilities translated to the next level, that was never really an issue with Ross.

However, weight gain apparently is the issue with the former Buckeye.

At the NBA Draft Combine, Ross got on the scale and clocked in at nearly 240 pounds, which was significantly higher than he had been a few months earlier.

“I think he really shot himself in the foot,” former Ohio State point guard Scoonie Penn said. “There were already questions about his athletic ability and how it would translate to the next level, and then for him to test as poorly as he did and be in the type of shape he was in, it really hurt his stock.”

Ross has the talent and skill set to make it at the next level, however if he wants to make it, he has to take care of his body a little better.

Because of the weight issue, there is a great chance that he won’t be selected by anyone on Thursday night. Does that mean his NBA career is finished? No, not by any means, but he needs to get back on track with his conditioning first.
