Ohio State Football: Sporting News Projects Buckeyes to play in 2014 Cotton Bowl Classic

Coming into the 2014 season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are expected to make a run at the national championship once again. They came so very close to reaching the BCS National Championship Game last season, and they would have been in there facing off against the Florida State Seminoles, had it not been for that heartbreaking loss to Michigan State.

There are some that believe the Buckeyes could reach the promised land this season, especially with the new four-team playoff format getting started, although the Sporting News is not apparently one of them.

On Monday, Sporting News released their bowl projections for the upcoming season, and while they do have Urban Meyer, Braxton Miller and company headed to a prestigious destination, it’s not one that involves potentially playing for a national title.

That, above, is where they have the Buckeyes projected; the Cotton Bowl Classic against Brett Hundley and the UCLA Bruins.

All things considered, should Ohio State not be one of the four playoff teams for whatever reason, a match up against the Bruins would be one of the more intriguing contests to see play out to end the season, so it wouldn’t be all that bad.

Still, though, that’s a secondary option to playing for that beautiful new trophy.
