Ohio State Football: Buckeyes Rank Fifth in 2014 Non-Conference Scheduling

Even though the format for picking a national champion in 2014 will be changing with the College Football Playoff beginning, there is still a lot of emphasis placed on a team’s non-conference schedule, maybe even more so now that humans are doing the selecting.

On Thursday, according to the official College GameDay twitter account, the toughest non-conference schedules for the 2014 season were released and the Buckeyes are right up there near the top, checking in at the number five slot.

Right off the bat this season, Ohio State takes on a tough foe in the form of the Navy Midshipmen, on the road to Baltimore. Believe it or not, some have this pegged as a potential trap game for the Buckeyes, and I’m not going to argue so much with that, especially given their track record in the past.

Right after that, Ohio Stat returns home to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies of the ACC, then will welcome in Kent State of the MAC the following week.

The non-conference slate finishes up two weeks after the Kent State game as the team will welcome in the Cincinnati Bearcats of the AAC into Columbus.
