Last season the Ohio State Buckeyes seemed destined to keep their undefeated streak alive and head off to Pasadena for a BCS Championship Game match up against the Florida State Seminoles. As we know now, that didn’t end up happening as the Buckeyes were outlasted by a very good Michigan State team in the conference championship game that went on to defeat Stanford in the Rose Bowl.
With that, the focus now turns to getting back to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game this season to once again be crowned the best team in the Big Ten.
The folks at Athlon Sports see that happening.
On Wednesday Athlon released their Big Ten predictions for the 2014 season, and when it’s all said and done, they have the Buckeyes and the Wisconsin Badgers battling it out inside Lucas Oil Stadium, with Ohio State claiming what they couldn’t last year.
1. Ohio State: 12-1 overall, 7-1 Big Ten
2. Michigan State: 10-2, 7-1
3. Penn State: 10-2, 6-2
4. Michigan: 8-4, 5-3
5. Maryland: 6-6, 3-5
6. Indiana: 5-7, 2-6
7. Rutgers: 4-8, 1-7
1. Wisconsin: 10-3, 7-1
2. Iowa: 9-3, 6-2
3. Nebraska: 9-3, 5-3
4. Northwestern: 6-6, 3-5
5. Minnesota: 6-6, 3-5
6. Illinois: 4-8, 1-7
7. Purdue: 3-9, 0-8
Big Ten championship game: Ohio State over Wisconsin
Of course with expansion, the divisions are re-aligned this season meaning that a rematch with Michigan State is off the table, so the Buckeyes will have to just outlast them in the regular season.
Looking at the West Division, it certainly seems plausible that Wisconsin comes out of there the champion. They could face some stiff competition from Nebraska, but that running game led by Melvin Gordon should bring them out on top.
