Ohio State Football: Former Buckeyes LB Mike Mitchell transferring to Texas Tech

There were high hopes coming into the Ohio State Buckeyes career of linebacker Mike Mitchell last season, however following his one year in Columbus, he decided that he wanted to transfer to be closer to home. On Friday it’s being reported that he has chosen that transfer destination, and he will now be joining the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Coming out of Prestonwood Christian High School in Plano, TX, Mitchell was a four-star composite recruit according to the 247 Sports rankings and chose the Buckeyes over offers from the likes of Arizona, Baylor, Colorado and Florida. He committed to Ohio State on Jan. 5 of 2013 and enrolled on campus in July.

Mitchell didn’t see a down of action last season as he was redshirted, even though the Buckeyes could have used some depth at linebacker.

There were reports that Mitchell had wanted to be closer to home to tend to an ailing family member, however as SB Nation’s Ohio State blog, Land-Grant Holy Land reportedly found out, that might not be entirely accurate as his brother, an Ohio State basketball recruit, is still set to join the school in 2015.
