No need to fix your glasses or re-check your OSU updates, Braxton Miller isn’t playing. But then who is that running the Buckeye offense to perfection? Kenny Guiton. Yes it’s number 13 back there, doing his best Braxton impression as he has guided the OSU offense to 24-14 first quarter start.
Coming into the day, Guiton didn’t even know if he would get the ball. Miller was listed as a game-time decision, but once he appeared in a t-shirt, it became clear that it was Kenny G time. All three first quarter touchdowns for Ohio State came on perfectly crisp Guiton passes to three different receiver; Devin Smith, Philly Brown, and Chris Fields. Guiton has also gotten help from running backs Jordan Hall and Dontre Wilson, who have each ripped off 25+ yard rushes.
Despite the great passing start, Guiton has also had some miscues. The most notable one came on a muffed option-play. Guiton and Wilson collided, resulting with the ball on the ground and ultimately in California’s hands.
With California continuing to strike quickly on offense, this game looks to be very high scoring. With such explosive offenses, OSU will need Guiton to continue his first quarter mastery to keep ahead, but most importantly, keep the mistakes to a minimum. More Guiton reviews and updates to come!
