OSU’s lady volleyball squad is rolling. Starting the week ranked #23, the Buckeyes began with an exhibition win over a talented Polish professional squad, Dabrowa Górnicza, on Wednesday. All ladies had time to play, as head coach Geoff Carlston tested multiple lineups. On Friday, OSU started play in the Seminole Invitational Tournament. The tournament involved several exciting matches, starting off with a 5 set thriller vs. the #16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Buckeye star Kaitlyn Leary picked up her second double-double of the season, totaling a match-high 20 kills and adding 10 digs. Later that day, the Buckeyes scored another big win against the #15 Florida State Seminoles, 3-1, with Leary leading the way once again, with a career-high 27 kills. Finally, on Saturday afternoon, the ladies demolished the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 3-0. Leary and two freshmen, Kylie Randall and Taylor Sandbothe, had fine games. Valeria Leon had 3 service aces. Leary was the MVP of the tournament, while Sandbothe and junior Taylor Sherwin joined her in the all-tournament team. Leary was also the Big Ten Player of the Week. The Buckeyes head back to campus to start their home schedule during the Sports Imports DC Koehl Classic, with games vs. IUPUI, Southeast Missouri (SEMO), and the Xavier Musketeers. After another tournament, the team will start their Big Ten schedule on September 27th, against their fierce rival, the Michigan Wolverines in Columbus.
