New York Jets C Nick Mangold, the former Buckeye who has been to four Pro Bowls, was injured in the second half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He went to the locker room with an apparent right elbow injury after a play that ended with a Buccaneers sack of Jets QB Geno Smith. Fullback Tommy Bohanon crashed into Mangold and the center remained down for a bit after the end of the play. It is still unknown how severe Mangold’s injury may be and his status for next week is in question. The Jets head to New England on Thursday, so Mangold would have to recover quickly to be able to play given the short week. Mangold has been able to prove his durability over his tenure in New York, missing only 2 games since being drafted by the Jets. He has become one of the leaders of the team during the past few years, and has been vocal about the Jets’ highly publicized quarterback controversy. Scarlet And Game will track his progress and report on Mangold’s status for week 2 throughout the week.
