The Buckeyes’ newest recruiting weapon? LeBron James.
Photos surfaced today that a locker with James’ name above it was added to the Buckeyes’ locker room. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes have not acquired James, however, he does have a very good relationship with the school. The Buckeyes frequently sport James label Nike gear, including the shoes that they’ll wear in the 2013-2014 season, and the locker will likely be used to showcase that gear when recruits are on tours.
While this may not be what lands the Bucks Jahlil Okafor or Cliff Alexander, anytime you can slap LeBron’s name on something, it certainly can’t hurt. Although James never went to college, he’s always endorsed the Buckeyes, and famously served as a mentor for Terrelle Pryor during his time at Ohio State so he could learn to better-manage the spotlight and the pressure that comes with being the quarterback of a national powerhouse.
LeBron’s name instantly brings bad thoughts to the minds of most Ohio sports fans nowadays, but you’d be hard-pressed to find an aspiring basketball star that doesn’t look up to him. And who knows, if he opts out of his contract with the Heat to rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers, perhaps all will be forgiven.
