NCAA Violations for Michigan?

I know, Buckeye fans, I know.  You read that headline and hoped that when you started perusing this blog that there would be huge, breaking news coming from Ann Arbor.  You hope that it’s something that will send all of the Wolverine fans that have been mocking OSU for the past year into a hypocritical funk.  We don’t wish anything like Penn State upon them, but certainly a scandal rooted in cheating, academics, or both.

And yet, what I give you is something even more ridiculous than the NCAA violations against OSU regarding players selling their own memorabilia.  Yes, this “scandal” stems from a couple of current M*chigan football players, Roy Roundtree and Kenny Demens, sending a tweet to UM’s most recent recruit in the 2013 class, Mike McCray.  The tweets were fairly simple from both Demens and Roundtree.  They welcoming the recruit to the TSUN family, but since McCray is merely a high school junior, and not an official member of the class until February of 2013, this could be considered a minor violation.

Demens’ tweet:   “@MJM92013 Welcome to the Maize & Blue my dog.”

Roundtree’s tweet:  “S/O to my lil brotha Mike McCray @MJM92013 for committing to Michigan today”

Sure, if you stretch your imagination you could see how current players tweeting a potential player could be viewed as cheating.  It may help reel in a player that was on the fence or convince others to follow suit, but in this case, Roundtree and McCray even attended the same high school, so they very well may know each other off the field.  However, before you get a bit overzealous and begin pointing the finger (whichever one it may be) up north, take a look at this, calm down, and wait for something else to start a fight with them about.

In other news, a Hurricane football player near Coral Gables is probably snorting coke off of a hooker as we speak, but hey, I’m sure the NCAA will get around to investigating them as thoroughly as they have the Big Ten…any minute now….no?
