” I just never get nervous”- Braxton Miller talking about performing in the clutch vs. Wisconsin.
This quote sums up Braxton Miller’s performance Saturday Night. It’s not that his stats were eye popping against Wisconsin, but it’s the way he got them. Braxton looked unflappable in the clutch during the Bucks come from behind victory. I mean, it’s not like he was facing a team that was undefeated the week before, when everyone was calling them unbeatable, or playing in his first nationally televised night game at the Horseshoe in front of 105,000 +. Oh wait, HE WAS.Braxton Miller displayed his full arsenal aganst the “honey” Badgers, doing it with a look on his face that made it look like he was playing in the backyard. This is no ordinary freshman, ladies and gentlemen (imagine that being said in a Brent Musberger voice, just saying that’s how I’m hearing it). The move he put on to freeze the defender on his first TD was Vince Young-esque, and then he showed explosion on his 44 yard jaunt (which can be seen here) to the end zone to put the Buckeyes up 26-14.
But most impressively, as Todd Blackledge pointed out, he kept his eyes downfield everytime he scrambled. This was most evident on his game winner to fellow frosh Devin Smith, which he threw across his body 40 yards with 20 seconds left (Here it is! Can’t get Enough!). All this after Wisconsin scored two TDs in 2 :30 to wrestle away the lead. Braxton wasn’t fazed at all. It was extremely impressive. Reportedly he winked at Coach Fickell right before he went out on the field before that last drive. It was like he’s been in these situations every week.It makes you feel that he’s basically just saying “Alright, I guess, I’ll go win the game now.” I want to see a birth certificate!
I feel sorry for the last 4 teams the Bucks face. Brax is as as confident as ever. Also, and most importantly, the team is as confident in him as ever, as he has shown that there is no moment that is too big for him. I can’t wait to see how the Scarlet and Gray plays now with a poised leader at the helm.
